Citibank and Mobilink Sign Agreement for Mobile Banking

Citibank Pakistan and Mobilink have signed an agreement to promote and facilitate the growth of mobile commerce (M-commerce) in Pakistan.
This follows last week’s announcement by Orascom Telecom’s Chairman and Chief Executive Naguib Sawiris to launch mobile banking in Pakistan.
This agreement will allow Citibank to utilize Mobilink’s broad retail network to provide financial services to the un-reached areas until now. The program will initially be run at at select pilot locations followed by nation-wide launch in line with State Bank of Pakistan’s guidelines.

Mobilink to Offer Mobile Banking

Egypt’s Orascom Telecom (OT) will launch a mobile banking operation in Pakistan this month, the firm’s chairman and chief executive Naguib Sawiris told Reuters. Orascom Telecom is represented by Mobilink in Pakistan.
“We are going to announce very soon, before the end of the month, we are going to launch our first real offering on mobile banking,” Sawiris said. He added that the planned mobile banking operation in Pakistan would be the first of its kind.
